With any goal comes sacrifice.
Plain and simple.
And the more “elite” the level you want to reach? The more sacrifices you’ll probably have to make.
Especially if you want results faster.
While of course we can’t out work time to some extent, the more we want results…well…now…the more sacrifices we will have to make.
Versus the longer we are willing to commit to the process?
Well the less “perfect” you often need to be because you are willing to be in it for the long haul.
And consistency goes a long way when we give it time.
However, while we may not have to be as “perfect,” we then do need to sacrifice more “time.”
There is always a “catch.” 😉
But, anyway, I bring this up because I think too often we set ourselves up for failure when it comes to reaching our goals because we aren’t willing to endure the sacrifices.
We don’t face them before getting started.
Instead we look for a magic pill. A quick and easy fix.
And the second we hit that difficult situation, that sacrifice? We give up.
But sorry…there really is no magic pill. That’s not really how life works haha
So the more we can go in with our eyes wide open about the “cost” of reaching our goals?
The better off we will be.
It’s not being negative. It’s being realistic.
It’s about facing the “worst” and knowing whether the cost is worth the reward to us.
It’s also about realizing that “sacrifices” aren’t really sacrifices if you want something that much.
Is the goal WORTH IT to you?
We have to remember that with every decision we make, we are “missing out” on something else.
We also have to recognize that what we see as a means to reaching our goals, others may call OBSESSION.
But sometimes we have to risk being a little “obsessed” to reach our goals. We have to go that extra mile that others aren’t willing to go.
It really comes down to…what do you value most?
There is no right or wrong choice or goal.
Life is about pursuing what matters to us.
It’s just always key we understand there is a cost to every decision we make.
That we are always sacrificing something in favor of something else.
Awesome write-up Cori. I totally agree. There are opportunity costs – but with health – that’s the biggest cost of them all – so I figure it’s best to just continue on this path of being healthy. Health = Wealth
Priorities and effort ha my positive spin I don’t see it as sacrifice I see it as choices……… so my journey begins
What a wise and profound message, thank you for sharing this with us sweet Cori! =)
This literally gave me goosebumps, it got me so pumped and was like a lightbulb moment for me. It made me realize my frustration with my physique and lack of reaching my goals these past five years is all due to thinking I could literally have my cake and eat it, too. I’ve been an entitled brat thinking I deserved to have the physique of my dreams just because I work out 5-6 days/week, not realizing in order to achieve my goal, I couldn’t also eat whatever I wanted. Thank you for giving me a wake up call. I feel a sense of peace admitting that I have to give up the way I’ve been doing things.
Hey Cori! I think you’re absolutely fantastic! Your workout videos are nice and you go through the steps to explain yourself which is great. Sacrifices are what they are, and you are true to say that if we want better or different it comes at a cost. Too bad we need to sleep right? Thank you fur the comment section and I’m glad to be one of the fussy ones to comment. Thanks fur the airways great information
Thank you! And great summary Theodore!
🙂 Thanks!
So glad it helps Erin! I think many of us have been there! Trust me…I’ve tried to out exercise my diet. It doesn’t work! Focus on starting to track this week to just see your current intake. Because we CAN find a balance with enjoying our cake and getting results. ;-P
So glad the videos and articles help! And yes, so many more hours in the day if we didn’t have to. BUT sleep is definitely not one of those things we want to sacrifice whenever possible! 😉
Thank you for being real about the reality of sacrifices and consequences. We must be mindful that everyone won’t be supportive of what we are doing to move to a goal, and it’s okay.
YES! And change is HARD. It’s uncomfortable. And the more we own that, the better we will be able to handle anything that comes our way!
Before I had a turnaround in my eating, I backed off because I saw that I kept failing and that down deep, I was not willing to deny my urges to overeat compulsively at the time. That didn’t lead to any magic reduction in urges, but eventually, I did see that it would be more painful to keep compulsively eating than it would be to find a better way to eat and face the urges to deviate. I didn’t find the perfect plan right away but my attitude was different and I celebrated every day on plan. I’ve kept of the weight I gained in adulthood and then some for around 10 years. Adding in movement has been a much harder road! And I am definitely not convinced trying to get to low body fat numbers will be worth what it would take at age 70. I’m still ramping up just to go for more vitality and delayed aging.
Love that you’re finding the changes you need and embracing the challenges along the way!
Well, reminds me of another Zen teaching.
Student says to master, “Master, I practice Zen so much I think I’m going a little crazy.”
Master replies with a laugh, “You must go completely crazy. A little crazy is no good. Only All the way crazy!!”
hehe love it!
